Why We Travel
It’s no secret that we love a fun filled girls trip.
Cocktails and rooftops, beaches and flip flops. We fully support both.
But what we’re building with Unchecked Baggage has never really been just about that.
It’s about connection. It’s about perspective. It’s about stepping outside your everyday life and realizing how much more there is to see beyond your own backyard.
That’s why when Budapest literally came out of nowhere for us, it was an immediate, hell yes.
Because Budapest isn’t just beautiful. It’s nuanced.
Budapest was once two cities. Buda and Pest. Split by the Danube before becoming one in 1873. Even now, you feel that duality everywhere you go.
Buda is quieter, historic, all castle views and winding streets. Pest is vibrant, full of cafés, ruin bars and hustle and bustle.
Two sides, coexisting.
And in a lot of ways, that duality reflects Hungary itself.
This is a country with a complicated past. One that hasn’t always landed on the right side of history, and one that’s been shaped by forces both chosen and imposed. Relatable, right?
A few things I’ve learned about Hungary since Budapest became a bucket list trip for us:
Occupied by the Ottoman Empire for over a century.
Elevated as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, leaving behind incredible architecture and cultural influence.
Aligned with Nazi Germany before being occupied by them during World War II.
Then decades under Soviet control, where independence and expression were tightly restricted.
And maybe that’s why it resonates with us. Because the women we travel with are not simple either.
We’re layered. We’ve lived things. We’ve made good and bad decisions. We’ve been shaped by where we’ve been, by the choices we’ve made, the good, the bad, and everything in between.
Lately, this has felt a little more personal for us. Life has a way of reminding you, sometimes gently, sometimes not, how quickly things can change.
And when that happens, your perspective shifts.
What felt like “later” suddenly feels like now. What you’ve been putting off starts to feel like the only thing that matters.
You start to realize that experiences, connection, and time spent really living your life aren’t things to wait on.
That’s the part of travel we care about. The part where something shifts.
Where your world gets a little bigger. Where you see things with more clarity.
Where you realize there’s depth behind it all - the new places, the new people and the new experiences.
And yes… there will still be wine! 🍷
We’ll spend a day in Eger, wandering through the Valley of the Beautiful Woman, moving from cellar to cellar, tasting local wines and fully embracing the moment.
We’ll soak in thermal baths. We’ll wander cobblestone streets.
We’ll sit at cafés longer than we planned and eat lángos bigger than our heads.
But the magic of a trip like this is the balance.
The mix of city and countryside. Of history and fun. Of planned moments and the space to just be.
Because the best trips don’t just entertain you. They expand you.
They connect you to the place, to the people you’re with, and back to yourself in a way that feels a little different than when you left.
And that’s why we travel. Not just to get away.
But to be more present in our lives while we’re living them.
Because “someday” isn’t always promised.
If you’ve been waiting for the right trip, the right time, or the right group of women to travel with…
This might be it.
Come with us to Budapest. August 26 – September 1, 2026, and experience the kind of trip that stays with you long after you get home.
